Extends Image Display Leadership With Superior Resolution Products for LCD TVs, Mobile Phones, and Handheld Games
SEOUL, South Korea, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- MagnaChip Semiconductor today announced that it is now offering source driver ICs and timing controllers for large LCD TVs. These products include a 10-bit driver IC with superior color expression, designed to drive both 384 and 420 channels to support the wide resolution common in large LCD TVs
Channy Lee, Executive Vice President of Products of MagnaChip Semiconductor, said, "The introduction of the source driver ICs and timing controllers, combined with our already extensive product portfolio in display driver ICs, positions MagnaChip well in the LCD TV market. These new products are an excellent addition to our current offering as they have the capability to provide superior color expression."
The Display Driver IC (DDI) business is among MagnaChip's three key strategic product lines. The other core lines are the Company's CMOS Image Sensor and Application Processor businesses. Recently, the DDI business has achieved rapid growth as a result of MagnaChip's wide range of products that support a variety of different displays. DDI revenues grew 40% from 2003 to 2004, reaching US$260 million. In terms of volume, MagnaChip sold 185 million units of driver chips in 2004 vs. 120 million in 2003. MagnaChip reported Company-wide sales of over US$1 billion in 2004.
MagnaChip owns a variety of high voltage process technologies for driver ICs. The Company is leveraging its strategic alliances with leading LCD panel manufacturers to develop and supply multi-channel source driver ICs for large TFTs.
In the small TFT area, MagnaChip is developing and supplying driver ICs for a variety of products ranging from high-end mobile phones and handheld games, to digital still cameras (DSC). In 2005, the Company will introduce a TFT QVGA one chip solution and an OLED QCIF two chip solution, which will further extend its technology lead in the small panel market and provide customers with even more versatile display solutions.
